Hunting Areas

Zeekoepan is located in the north eastern region of South Africa, where the Elephant Coast meets Zululand. This area is just south of Mozambique and Swaziland. This is the most highly populated game area in South Africa due to the high carrying capacity of the vegetation.

We mainly concentrate on hunting in this area. Good representative to excellent hunting trophies are taken each year from our hunting concessions in this area. Mature animals, at the end of their life span, are preferably hunted.

Although our camp is situated in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, we conduct hunts in other parts of South Africa according to the habitat the specie favours.

Duration of your Hunt

The best hunting time is from April to September/October.

A representative hunt consists of 8 to 10 hunting days. Travelling time from and to the airport of your choice takes up the first and last day of your time. Therefore, add 2 days. Flying to Richards Bay airport is strongly recommended as it is only a 2,5 hours drive from Zeekoepan.

Sunday is normally considered a non-hunting day. Activities of your choice can be done. More info – Non hunting activities

If time is running out finding your trophies, Sundays might be spent hunting.

The species and number of trophies each person would like to hunt, the areas where the species occur and how much travelling time from one hunting area to another, will determine the time needed for your safari.

We normally calculate the time needed, at an animal per day on Zeekoepan for the bush species.

In the case of Bushbuck, Kudu, Nyala and Red Duiker etc. one may need 2-3 or even more days per animal to pick a good trophy. In the mean time, hunting for other species continues.

On plains game, where the country is open, 2 – 3 trophies can be taken per day.

All Big Game safaris have a minimum booking time. Please note that travelling time to concessions also requires extra days to be added to the time frame of the hunt.

DEPOSIT (VERY IMPORTANT)

• 25% of the full quote of the hunt with a minimum of US$ 2500-00 (€1750), have to   be paid within 21 days after the booking was made. (Please note: NOT from the   commencement date of the hunt!!) The hunt is 100% confirmed only after   receiving the deposit.

• Only AFTER receiving the deposit, the hunt will be arranged, as non-refundable   deposits have to be paid by us towards animals hunted on concession.

Big game will require an extra deposit as soon as the client approves the   custom planned safari.

• The deposit is not refundable. It is only transferable within the same season, if an   alternative date is available.

• PLEASE NOTE: Only CASH or TRAVELLERS CHEQUES are accepted as   means of payment after the hunt.

Firearms

South Africa's firearm rules and laws can be a bit confusing, but it is not really as difficult as people make it out to be. It is very simple if you follow our instructions that will be sent to you by e-mail. Temporary import / export permits are issued automatically at the "first port of entry" for hunting rifles, providing the paperwork is in order according to our guidelines. Any firearm in the 7mm to 300 range is recommended for antelope / plains game. If you will be hunting one of the "Big 5", hunting law in South Africa requires a minimum calibre of .375 H&H. .

Hiring of firearms, is possible @ $25 per rifle per day. Ammunition @ cost price per packet.

NB! PLEASE REMEMBER to apply for a SAPS 520 form from us, which has to be completed, if you will be travelling with your own rifles. We will send you the full procedure in writing.

If you are planning to combine the hunt with a photographic safari, it is in some cases strongly recommended not to travel with your firearms. According to South African firearms laws, it has to be in your sight 24 hours a day or locked up in your gun safe all the time. It can't be left at any hotel and it can't enter into any Game Reserve.

Bird Hunting Safaris

Are you interested in a bit of bird hunting to compliment your African plains game hunting safari?

The bird hunting "open season" for a great variety of wing shooting, runs from May 1st - July 31st.

Doves can be hunted all year round. But the best time for hunting doves is April and May.

Bird hunting will need 3 - 4 days of your time as some travelling to these areas is involved.

Bow Hunting Safaris

If you have ever been serious about archery hunting, you've probably considered hunting Africa with your trusted bow. Archery hunters who have brought their bows to Zeekoepan, South Africa, have not left disappointed.

Although Zeekoepan Safaris is not exclusively for archery hunting, your outfitter and Professional hunter, Willem Basson, enjoys bow hunting himself. Archery hunting is done from permanent hides overlooking five different waterholes and moveable stands on trails at game concentration areas. For the keen bow hunter this opportunity can’t be missed.

We operate our archery hunting on our privately owned and strictly managed, game rich land in the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. This is a bow hunting opportunity of a lifetime.

The terrain ranges from lush river vegetation to bush lands providing excellent habitat for the 18 species of animals that is hunted on Zeekoepan and several more species that are found here.

Indemnity

• Every hunter or non-hunter is making use of our services and amenities at their   own risk.

• We do not accept responsibility for any loss or damages to your personal   property.

• We cannot be held responsible whatsoever, for any injuries or deaths.

• Dangerous animals such as Cape Buffalo and White Rhino occur on Zeekoepan.

• Crocodiles and hippo occur in the river.

• The possibility of elephant & lion crossing onto Zeekoepan is real.

• Leopards and snakes (although they hibernate during the winter / hunting   months) are always present.

• Please Note: DO NOT LEAVE ANY BREAKABLE ITEMS UNATTENDED   OUTSIDE – monkeys during the day and bush babies during the night are   destructive. Close windows and doors as monkeys do get in if they do not see   any movement inside the buildings!!
